A antique silver salt cellar made by the renowned master silversmith Denis GARREAU from the early 1800s. Garreau was widely known for his work which was very refined and detailed. His documented work spans roughly 1817 through the 1830s. This piece is hallmarked for solid silver.

 

Hallmark of Minerva’s head to the right in a round frame, medium silver guarantee. Used in Paris from 1809 to 1819. Hallmark of rooster attacking (can be seen, but is very faded) to the right in an irregular octagon surrounded by a border, number 1 under wing for silver 1st title (950/000). Garreau's hallmark consists of the initials "DG" inside a lozenge, accompanied by the distinctive emblem of two men in a boat.

*Metal is untested, but is likely solid silver based off of the hallmarks.

Dimensions: 2 7/8” by 2 1/2”.

Provenance: France.

State of Preservation: In excellent condition with some minor patina on the silver.
